Potter's Mark | Q.VALERIVS VERANIVS |
---|---|
Die no | 9 |
Reading | Q.VALERIVS/VERANIVS |
Reading (Tomlin) | Q . VALERIVS VERANIVS (in very small letters) DOGAERIA . FAC |
Comments on the Readings (Tomlin) | Medial point after Q is a well-drawn 'leaf' stop. VA ligatured like 'XX' with a medial cross-bar. E is reversed and L ligatured to it, as indicated by the short diagonal stroke to the right for the 'lambda' form, . I is ligatured to R. In line 2, E is reversed again to be ligatured to R. Between the two lines, a line of very small letters, with FAC for fac(it) suggesting it is the potter's name. But -aeria is surely feminine. Is this a place-name? |
Retrograde | E E |
Ligatured | VA, LE, IR, ER |
Variant letter | DOGAERIA.FAC all small letters |
Two line Stamp | TL |
Additional Letters to the Name | DOGAERIA.FAC |
Other Decorative Motifs | leaf |
Notes | Name panel has leaf motif. Two Es retrograde and ligatured. Additional small letters DOGAERIA.FAC between the two lines of the name letters |
