Potter's Mark | L.LVRI PRO CRESCES |
---|---|
Die no | 1 |
Reading | L LVRI PRO/CRESCES |
Reading (Tomlin) | [L] . LVRI PRO [C]RESCES |
Comments on the Readings (Tomlin) | The medial point left of L implies an abbreviated praenomen has been lost, but with hint of the horizontal stroke of L below it. [C]RESCES is a 'Vulgar' spelling of Crescens. Since it is nominative and LVRI genitive, KH is right to separate them, understanding 'Cresce(n)s (the slave) of Lurius Pro(...)', surely Pro(culus). |
Two line Stamp | TL |
Notes | For L. LVRIVS PROCVLVS CRESCE(n)- Crescens is a slave. Provenance unknown, thought to be from Italy, bought by Cambridge Mus. 1891. |
