Notes | G.ATISIVS (his praenomen and nomen) was always stamped to one side of the spout, and his cognomen, while GRATVS was always impressed to the other side of the spout. There is no known example of him ever using either stamp alone on a mortarium. Because the individual stamps were invariably stamped to either side of the spout, the stamps are often found alone because of breakage. It can be possible to match a G. ATISIVS stamp with the GRATVS die it belonged with. All of his stamps and in fact all the G.ATISIVS stamps known in Britain are on Gillam form 236 mortaria with their very characteristic spouts.
