Comments on the Readings (Tomlin)ειρηνα | ευτυχι Greek letters, with rounded, 'cursive' epsilon - space-filler at the end ('leaf' stop in 1.1, medial point in 1.2). ευτυχι = 'good luck', 'fare well' ειρηνα for the woman's name usually spelt ειρηνη ('peace', Irene)?

NotesGreek 'good wish' or 'good fortune' stamp; (see Yangaki 2009 for discussion). One of the commonest stamps used at these potteries. Only example of these Syrian stamps in Britain, recorded as from Risingham, Northumberland (Hayes 1967 and Clark 1887, concerning find c.1857.
